Partnership between BWS of Belize and CCWD of the United States aimed to help BWS develop safe and efficient practices and provide higher quality drinking water services for their customers.
Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) was identified as a mentoring agency to support Belize Water Services Ltd. (BWS) improve their operational performance and address other challenges identified by the menteee. The first phase of the WOP established an action plan and focussed on issues relating to operations, safety, customer service, technology, finance, and worker safety.
Following the success of this phase, CCWD and BWS have completed the second phase of their Water Operators' Partnership. Both agencies have learned a lot from each other and this video provides a brief overview of that partnership, and future partnering opportunities.
Through the mentoring support provided by CCWD, BWS have made progress in three critical work areas: operations, safety, and monitoring, and tangible results include the creation of safety committees, upgrading of treatment plants to meet safety standards, and improvements to water quality testing measures.
As part of the BEWOP initiative and using the WOPs analytical framework, a detailed case study of this WOP is foreseen for 2016.
